Mens skincare benefits

Men’s skincare products are essential for every gent out there, no matter the age of lifestyle. Gone are the days where caring for your skin was once considered ‘feminine’. Nowadays, skincare products for men exist to help us indulge in our own self-care routines. But choosing the right skincare can be a little overwhelming. If you’re new to the scene, below are some skincare tips to keep in mind.

Know Your Skin Type

This is the first step before proceeding any further. Take some time to understand your skin. Is it oily? Dry? A mixture of both? If you’re unsure, we’ve compiled a list of skin types and their common characteristics below:

Normal Skin:

You’re a lucky man if you have this type! Everything is generally balanced. Your skin stays oil-free and hydrated most of the day. It really only fluctuates depending on the seasons. Normal skin can use a variety of skincare products for men to help them maintain healthy skin.

Dry Skin:

Men with this type will typically experience dryness, tightness and itchiness, especially after showering. Dead skin also tends to show up as flakes on the skin. Dry skin should focus on men’s skincare products that contain hydrating ingredients that nourish and moisturise the skin.

Oily Skin:

This skin type is very common for men because our skin is thicker and therefore produces more oil. Men with oily skin will often have enlarged pores (especially on the nose), with greasiness and shine accumulating as the day goes on. Oily skin can also lead to regular breakouts, acne, blackheads and clogged pores. Those with oily skin should focus on men’s grooming products that help balance out oil production and unclog pores for a clear complexion.

Combination Skin:

This skin type is a combination of dry skin and oily skin. There will be oiliness across your t-zone area (forehead, nose and chin), while your cheeks will experience dryness. This can be the most difficult skin type to manage, as you need products that will balance out the combined skin types.

Create a skincare routine with the right men’s grooming products

Clear and balanced skin doesn’t just happen on its own. Regardless of your skin type, you should use skincare products for men that specifically address your skin’s unique concerns whether it’s ageing, acne, oil production and more.

Every routine should mostly consist of cleansing, moisturising and protecting the skin. In the morning, always ensure you finish off by using a sunscreen that is at least SPF30+. Read on for recommendations on what kind of products and ingredients to look out, broken down by the skin types.

Normal Skin:

The world is your oyster. For normal skin, it’s all about maintaining the balance that already exists. Cleanse twice a day with a gentle cleanser. As an optional, you can add an antioxidant serum that protects skin against environmental aggressors like pollution and smoke. Keep skin hydrated with a lightweight moisturiser. If it’s daytime, layer sunscreen on top. For normal skin, we recommend the following men’s skincare products:

Dry Skin:

The key to caring for dry skin is hydration. By hydrating your skin, you’ll prevent other conditions like skin flaking, tightness, dryness, all while slowing down wrinkles and fine lines. Cleanse twice a day with a creamy gentle cleanser. If your skin is very dry, we also recommend using a hydrating serum immediately after cleansing and patting the face dry. Serums are designed to penetrate your skin to provide deep hydration from the inside out. Layer a thick moisturisers with humectants like Glycerin, that absorb moisture from air and bring it to your skin. If it's daytime, don’t forget sunscreen. For dry skin, we recommend the following skincare products for men:

Oily Skin:

Men with oily skin need skincare products that reduce the overproduction of oil (known as sebum). In doing this, they can reduce the occurrence of other skin conditions like acne, blackheads and enlarged pores. Acids, like Glycolic Acid and Salicylic Acid, are your best friends. These will work to remove dead skin, clean out clogged pores and eliminate acne-causing bacteria, all while regulating skin’s natural oil production. Keep the routine simple yet effective. Like above, cleanse twice a day. A lightweight serum is optional, but beware of layering too many products. Always use a lightweight moisturiser, and top off with sunscreen if it's daytime. For oily skin, we recommend the following skincare products for men:

Combination Skin:

The products you choose need to maintain both your oily and dry skin. Therefore, your routine should consist of products that address conditions like oiliness, but without drying out skin. Always cleanse twice a day with a gentle cleanser. You can also incorporate a hydrating serum, but this isn’t necessary for combination skin types. Instead, you might want to consider using two moisturisers at once. Use a lightweight moisturiser in your t-zone area (forehead, nose and chin), then use a thicker, hydrating moisturiser on the cheek area. Of course, don’t forget sunscreen if it's daytime. For combination skin, we recommend the following skincare products for men:
